i think i love you. i don't need you, no, no. i need another pair of sunglasses, like i need a hole in the head, and an even larger hole in my wallet. but, i do love you - even if it's from afar... sigh.
if it seemed like i took an impromptu hiatus from posting, you'd be pretty much on the mark. these cool fall days have me wrapped up tight - with evenings spent at home with the boy and the pup, watching movies and drinking hot tea. i know how that must sound, like i'm positively ancient or a right bore, but i suppose i just needed a time out, and i didn't notice that i was taking one from a wee bit as well. so, HI!
speaking of these autumn days, i am so in my element, as i think there is nothing better than sweaters, scarves and cute little shoes to get you through until the winter-weariness sets in. although the season is short, it is always my absolute favourite!

after the insanity of the oxford circus topshop - where the boy and i sent each other texts to message our whereabouts in the MASSIVE store - we made it out of there after 90 minutes and £200. all in all, a satisfied, if not harried experience. afterwards, we slowly made our way to a lovely italian bistro and past this shop, which i had heard of before, and always tried to put it out of my head that it had anything to do with the UK girl-band of the same name.
all saints, surprised me. the only other mention of it i remember was when susie from stylebubble spoke of it way back in 2006. and i must say, what i saw surprised me. the clothes were dark, modern and seemingly well-made. dresses, tops and accessories that did not align itself immediately to what would be considered "trendy", but clothes were definitely au courant and infinitely wearable. not what one would usually dream of in terms of the high street and in terms of a "chain" type store.
the shop has big plans coming up, with expansion into north american markets on tap. but for now, i'm just thrilled that all saints offers worldwide shipping...
i'm sure i've gone on for miles about a certain issue i have with wallets. the one where i have to change mine on a yearly basis, for no good reason other than the fact that i find ones that are so lovely and sometimes weird that i just have to have them. it's an odd habit to be sure, but shoes never called out to me the way these smaller, more compact leather accessories have. there'll be no staid brown leather billfolds for me, oh no.
surely then, dear readers, you can understand my sheer adoration of this tsumori chisato 'shimmering ocean' wallet. it may perch itself too near the cliff of twee, but that doesn't bother me a bit, i find it to be just the right amount of whimsical chic.
ever since i started in on my quest to move a bit more colour into my life and wardrobe, all i see are pieces that are just so lovely for summer; they look breezy and fun, but not twee or too girly.
and i just want to say 'bring it all to me and i will gather up my courage and wear it'. because seriously, how lovely and easy is this miu miu cotton tank dress?
as mentioned in my previous post, i'm not adverse to those items that are quality and higher priced. it's all well and good to have a wardrobe full of fun and easy items that were picked up on the cheap. but, in my mind, quality does go a long way in terms of fit, cut, and longevity - and sometimes you have to pay for it.
in saying all of that and with the added disclaimer that i am salivating over this very simple, silk shape & space shift by lauren moffat, at a price of $408, even i think it's way too expensive for what it is.
should it, however, go on sale? i'll be the first one in the electronic line-up...
being recently profiled in the new york times, will surely do opening ceremony a great service, but it isn't as if they were struggling before.
if you ignore chloe sevigny's mini-collection for the brand (which, in my opinion was abysmal, although i do like her style of style), opening ceremony deals in the chic and modern, without being overly pretentious and their stores are like mini-art galleries for clothes, carrying interesting labels along with stalwart brands like tretorn and stetson just to tip the scales in favour of hipsterism.
however, what i really like about them at this very moment? is this, classic flare coat. this is the definition of simple modern dressing and it's best. or close to it at least.
a little premature, of course, but the moment the new year has whispered past its countdown, the chilly weather somehow turns itself on its ear and retailers start pushing us toward balmy spring. and i cannot help but bite at some of the lovely 'resort' collections that have become ever-so present as of late. mayle (of new york boutique fame) has struck a very formidable cord with me. easy to wear shapes, modern cuts and prints that don't make you feel ashamed of your shape and their sensibility brings with it a certain loose refinement that i quite enjoy. and with dresses such as the 'vanya' in a gorgeous shade of royal blue doesn't tempt you, i'm not quite sure i know what will...
do you remember when i mentioned, in a very throw-away sort of manner, that i had a slight obsession with brooches? well, i may have been playing it a bit quieter than i should have. because, in reality, i positively adore a brooch. on a lapel, in your hair, on your bag, or just about anywhere, i think a brooch just makes any look a bit more polished and that much more interesting. i've got quite the collection going and i never mind adding and expanding to it - so, that being said, if you (or you, or you) would like to pick up this mini feather beetle brooch by phillip lim, please, don't feel the need to ask. i'll accept it, most graciously.
things have been a right snooze around these parts, and for that, i truly apologize. real life has edged its way into my pretend world of no frets and have kept me away from the world of rampant consumerism and of course, stylishness. and i miss it so very much. i have, on the sly, been able to peak inside the change rooms of some my most favourite online haunts, and have come up with a few items that i would either love to have for my very own, or be able to give you, my three readers, as some ideas for your ever-lovely selves...
the chalkstone cape from anthropologie. doesn't just looking at this piece make the slowly approaching winter months seem that much more bearable? i just want to wrap myself in it and take a nap. well, i just want to take a nap in general, but you get my drift...
the mintonette over-the-knee sock, also from anthropologie. there are a handful of items that i seem to have slight obsessions with. one of them, oddly enough, along with brooches of all shapes and sizes and scarves, is a good and sometimes downright silly sock. a colourful sock just makes me happy, don't ask me why, i'm just a bit of a strange duck.

you know, erin fetherston seems to have that certain something, that certain sense of whimsy, a gloss of parisian chic and a humourous sophistication about her designs, that you cannot help but love it. at least, that's my take on it. in my mind, her collections are simply charming...
back in the summer of 2004, i traveled to europe on the cheap. it wasn't for the experience of it, it wasn't for want of it, it was due to a very bad fiscal year for little old me, but it was one of the best trips i have ever taken for a multitude of reasons.
there was, however, one instance where i really felt the sting of not being able to procure any little trinket or piece of clothing, and that was during our last stop, in paris, where we were attending the wedding of two friends. as i walked to the monoprix to pick up some groceries for said friends, i happened upon a little store named 'comptoir des cotonniers' and it was love at first sight.
the aesthetic to my eye is something akin to marni, but more to the point a 'marni-light'. not as obvious in its quirk, but chic in every way, especially in the way that only parisian women can be.
on this past trip however, where my financial situation wasn't nearly as bleak as before, i made sure to make my way over to the nearest comptoir des cotonniers i could find, which just happened to be in milan. and so for now, my obsession has been sated - but i'm not sure for how long and the little matter of the site not offering online shopping makes me just a little bit more than sad.
there may be a reason that i've got the autumnal hum. that thing, that excited feeling that i get when i cannot wait until the weather subtly changes itself from damp, musty and warm, to crisp, bright and cool.
i love fall. it may also have something to do with the fact that i might have purchased this l.a.m.b. hooded jacket and just really want to wear it. i'm just saying that could be it, it's not a definite.
